RadNet to Install the TULSA-PRO® System for Leading-Edge Customizable, Incision-Free Prostate Treatment

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- RadNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: RDNT), a national leader in providing high-quality, cost-effective, fixed-site outpatient diagnostic imaging services today reported it has committed to install its first TULSA-PRO® System, an incision-free solution for prostate disease, which was developed to revolutionize treatment for men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Combining real-time Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with robotically-driven directional thermal ultrasound and closed-loop temperature feedback control software, the TULSA-PRO® System delivers transurethral prostate tissue ablation of whole-gland or partial gland prostate tissue. The system is designed to be customizable to the individual treatment needs of each patient. It is an incision-free, radiation-free ablation that simultaneously protects the urethra and rectum with water cooling, which is designed to preserve men’s functional abilities.

The procedure has been cleared by the FDA and will be initially performed on an outpatient basis in a newly constructed, state-of-the-art 3T MRI room and recovery suite at RadNet’s Liberty Pacific Advanced Imaging location in West Hills, California (held within a joint venture with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center) beginning in the later part of the first quarter. Following its introduction at Liberty Pacific, RadNet plans to expand the TULSA-PRO program to centers located in West Los Angeles and in the Orange County/Irvine areas.

Under the stewardship of Dr. Robert Princenthal, RadNet has been on the forefront of prostate cancer care and was one of the first radiology practices in the U.S. to establish a dedicated prostate MRI program.

Morgan Keegan is out with its report today on RadNet (NASDAQ: RDNT), raising its PT from $4.30 to $5.15.

In a note to clients, Morgan Keegan writes, "We are modestly lowering our 2011 adjusted EBITDA estimate for RadNet from $118 million to $115 million and our 2012 estimate from $126 million to $124 million. However, we are raising our price target from $4.30 to $5.15 based on a multiple of 6.5x EV/EBITDAR."

NYTimes - "CT Scans Cut Lung Cancer Deaths"

Finally some positive press...!!

According to a recent government-financed NIH study, its been determined that annual CT scans of current and former heavy smokers reduced their risk of death from lung cancer by 20% and that these cancer doctors predict that the study's results would soon "lead to widespread use of CT scans" for current smokers who have a 1 in 10 chance of contracting lung cancer.

The article goes on to say that the federal Medicare program "will soon reconsider paying for these CT lung screens" instead of the patients having to pay for the scans themselves, and that these CT scans also "helped to detect other life-threatening diseases besides lung cancer."

And according to the American Heart Association, there are currently an estimated 24.8 million men and 21.1 million women in the United States who are smokers (that's unbelievable, and very sad), and we know that lung cancer claims about 157,000 lives each year (just terrible).

I believe these recent findings will benefit RDNT in a meaningful way, and could create significant revenue opportunities going forward.

As we know, RDNT is one of the largest multi-modality imaging companies in the country with one of the largest fleets of imaging equipment, including CT scans. Should the federal government begin to pay for annual CT scans for these current and former smokers, RDNT could not be better positioned to capitalize on these new recent developments IMHO.

As the study suggests, at least for lung cancer, "spending more on tests saves lives."
