Wendy's Co. has hired former Pizza Hut executive Kurt Kane to
the newly created post of chief concept officer in its effort to
"elevate our marketing and innovation capabilities" and drive
long-term growth.
Mr. Kane has held positions at companies including Frito-Lay
Inc. and Molson Coors Brewing Co. He joined Pizza Hut, part of Yum
Brands Inc., in 2008. His most recent role there was global chief
marketing and food innovation officer.
Mr. Kane will be responsible for North America marketing and
innovation efforts for the Wendy's brand, effective May 4. He will
report to Chief Executive Emil Brolick.
The fast-food industry has seen the biggest players challenged
by newer chains such as Five Guys, Shake Shack Inc. and
Smashburger.
In February, Wendy's unveiled plans to sell another 500
restaurants to franchisees as it seeks to cut spending. At the
time, the company also gave a disappointing outlook for 2015 and
reported preliminary revenue for its fourth quarter that missed
expectations.
Wendy's has struggled with high beef costs and pressure from the
implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
