International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Thursday. The Bank of New York index of American depositary receipts fell 0.22% to 155.39. The European index decreased 0.26% to 151.58, the Asian index dropped 0.21% to 153.77, the Latin American index fell 0.05% to 305.75 and the emerging markets index declined 0.21% to 311.01. Among the companies with shares that actively traded were Eni SpA (E, ENI.MI) and Grupo Televisa SAB (TV, TLEVISA.MX).

Eni said Thursday that Milan prosecutors have placed under investigation its newly appointed chief executive as part of their probe into the purchase of a Nigerian oil asset by the Italian energy company, which reiterated its denial of any wrongdoing. The purchase has drawn scrutiny from anticorruption campaigners in their attempt to seek greater transparency from oil companies in their dealings with resource-rich non-Western governments. Eni has the biggest operations in Africa among international energy companies. Eni shares fell 1.5% to $48.78.

Mexican broadcast and media company Grupo Televisa sold its 50% stake in mobile carrier Iusacell at a loss, parting ways with businessman Ricardo Salinas after a three-year partnership in the venture. Shares fell 1.2% to $37.70.
