In an effort to beef up its interactive division, consulting
giant Accenture PLC (ACN) said Wednesday it has acquired
Texas-based app developer Chaotic Moon Studios, which has made a
name for itself with projects for notable clients like Disney and
Marvel Entertainment.
Accenture didn't disclose the terms of the deal. Chaotic Moon,
which launched in 2010, would become part of Accenture Interactive,
according to a news release from the consulting firm.
The acquisition will "help us keep pace with the growing demand
for our digital design and innovation services," said Brian
Whipple, senior managing director at Accenture Interactive.
The move continues Accenture's strategy of expanding by
acquisition. In March, the company purchased Brazil-based Gapso, a
logistics company. A month later, Accenture added
consulting-services company Axia Ltd., based in Massachusetts. This
month, Accenture announced an agreement to acquire EnergyQuote JHA,
a London-based energy-management company, the cloud consulting firm
Solium, based in Madrid, and the digital agencies housed in Hong
Kong-based PacificLink Group.
"Chaotic Moon will continue to design and build technology of
consequence for our existing clients, as well as Accenture's roster
of many of the world's biggest brands," said Chaotic Moon Chief
Executive and co-founder Ben Lamm.
Accenture's earnings have risen steadily in recent years, while
its outsourcing and consulting businesses have enjoyed strong
growth. Accenture was tapped last year to help fine tune the
embattled HealthCare.gov website, the central fixture of the
Affordable Care Act. In December, it won a five-year contract to
continue work on the federal insurance site.
