("Michelmersh" or the "Company")
Winner of Best Public Building at Brick Awards 2014
New High Profile Projects Secured
Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC (AIM:MBH.L), the specialist brick
company, is pleased to announce that it won Best Public Building at
the Brick Awards 2014 for the East Ham Customer Service Centre
& Library. The Company also takes this opportunity to give
shareholders an update following a series of significant brick
projects including the redevelopment of 10.2 hectares of Elephant
and Castle, the repair and improvement of the terracotta façade of
Jimmy Choo's largest store globally, located on New Bond Street,
and also the RFU Centre for Athletic Development at Pennyhill
Park.
Winner of Best Public Building - Brick Awards 2014
At the Annual Brick Awards held on Wednesday 12(th) November,
the Company was presented with the Best Public Building, which
showcased the Company's newest handmade innovative product i-line,
a slim line modern brick which complements contemporary
designs.
Elephant & Castle regeneration project
The Company was engaged by Lend Lease, the international company
with a 50 year track record of building and managing residential
developments across the world, and Southwark Council to deliver
high quality standards of sustainable brick products for the
regeneration of Elephant & Castle, a large-scale urban
regeneration scheme to deliver new homes and revitalize the
area.
This project is committed to implementing meaningful and
sustainable climate-related policies and programs as part of the
Climate Positive Development Program, which challenges large scale
urban regeneration projects to deliver climate positive
developments. These buildings will showcase the latest sustainable
building practices, which includes the use of MBH's bricks as a
product offering longevity and an improvement in energy efficiency
whilst still being aesthetically pleasing. In the most recent order
from the project, an additional 397,000 pre-blended bricks were
ordered.
Jimmy Choo, New Bond Street
The Jimmy Choo store, located on New Bond Street, London,
recently underwent a face-lift to reinstate its original terracotta
façade. Michelmersh was approached to help with the intricate
restoration designed by Burogloo and MPA Architects. This was a
technical job for the Company in which sculptors, at the Hathern
Terra Cotta branch of the Company, had to use replica casting using
only a photo available of the original façade, demonstrating the
highly skilled workforce employed at Michelmersh.
The objective was to provide detailed and intricate terracotta
units that would blend seamlessly into the shop floor, whilst also
standing out as an architectural achievement on New Bond
Street.
RFU (Rugby Football Union) Centre for Athletic Development at
Pennyhill Park
This new indoor training facility used by England's elite rugby
teams adopted Michelmersh's i -line blend to offer modern elongated
brick facades to complement the contemporary design. i -line is
popular with a new generation of brick architects and is featured
on many recently completed projects due to its ability to offer an
infinite blend of bespoke combinations, aesthetics and
textures.
Martin Warner, CEO commented: "We are delighted to have received
the Best Public Building Award this year at the Brick Awards, an
accolade which we feel recognises our innovative and quality
products.
"We are also extremely encouraged by the use of our bricks as
part of such iconic projects. The Elephant & Castle
regeneration project demonstrates the sustainable and energy
efficient use of bricks, whilst the Jimmy Choo project reveals our
quality craftsmanship in our handmade products. It is particularly
encouraging to see modern architects adopting the use of bricks for
their projects which demonstrates the timeless demand for our
product as well as a modern brick revival with our innovative
products."
