MILAN--Eni SpA (ENI.MI) Friday said its third quarter net loss narrowed as the Italian oil and gas company booked fewer extraordinary charges but continued to struggle with low crude prices.

The net loss in the three months to the end of September was 562 million euros ($613 million) compared with a net loss of EUR783 million in the same period last year. Revenue fell 18% to EUR13.12 billion.

Production remained largely unchanged in the quarter at 1.71 million barrels of oil equivalent a day. The startup of new fields offset the forced temporary shutdown of the Italian company's main domestic production site. Excluding the shutdown, production rose 2.2%.
