Healthy Directions, a direct-to-consumer nutritional supplement
and personal care company and wholly-owned subsidiary of Helen of
Troy Limited (NASDAQ: HELE), today released results from a clinical
study on its industry-leading heart health supplement, Omega Q
Plus® Resveratrol.
The open label absorption study, conducted by KGK Synergize
(London, Ontario), was run over a four-week period in mid-2015 on
50 individuals. Participants were split into two groups: healthy
subjects and statin users. The primary objective of the study was
to determine whether twice daily use of Omega Q Plus Resveratrol
resulted in increased plasma levels of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)—a
powerful antioxidant that also plays a critical role in energy
production, thereby providing multiple benefits, but particularly
ones related to heart health. The study found that Omega Q Plus
Resveratrol use led to a 49 percent increase in CoQ10 levels in
healthy individuals, a 60 percent increase among statin users, and
a 55 percent increase overall for the combined groups.
Each group in the study consisted of both males and females over
the age of 45. The average age of the healthy subject group was 57;
for statin users it was 62. Subject health profiles were equivalent
in both groups and smoking status, blood pressure, heart rate,
weight and BMI were consistent between groups.
“We are excited about these results, which prove that taking
Omega Q Plus Resveratrol is a safe, effective, consistent and
reliable means of substantially raising plasma CoQ10 levels in both
healthy subjects and statin users,” said Connie Hallquist,
president of Healthy Directions. “The study results also confirm
how Omega Q Plus Resveratrol can help Americans support their heart
health naturally.”
Omega Q Plus Resveratrol, which was introduced to the
nutritional supplement marketplace in January 2012, was formulated
by Dr. Stephen Sinatra, a highly respected and sought after
cardiologist and nutritionist. With millions of bottles already
sold, this heart health supplement contains an exclusive
combination of highly absorbable Hydro Q-Sorb® CoQ10, Calamarine®
omega-3 oil, L-carnitine, vitamins B12 and B6, folic acid, and
trans resveratrol, for comprehensive cardiovascular support. One
daily dose (two softgels) of Omega Q Plus Resveratrol provides 50
mg of Hydro Q-Sorb CoQ10.
“This clinical study left me amazed by just how fast 96 percent
of subjects saw a noticeable change in their CoQ10 levels—a 55
percent lift on average, after as little as four weeks,” said Dr.
Sinatra, whose expertise is grounded in more than 35 years of
clinical practice and research. “It’s always terrific when prior
medical research can be duplicated in other studies. In this case,
I was delighted that this latest study showed similar results to a
previous one I did on the relative bioavailability of coenzyme Q10,
published in 1998.”
Omega Q Plus Resveratrol is not sold in stores and is available
