Hannover Rueck SE said Wednesday that it is committing to
reaching net zero emissions by 2030 in its business operations and
by 2050 in its reinsurance portfolio and investments.
The targets are in line with the Paris Agreement aimed at
limiting the extent of global warming, the company said.
The German reinsurer said it will actively participate in
developing methods to measure the emissions of reinsured customer
portfolios in its property and casualty business.
It will also aim to decarbonize its investments. Its first
target in this respect is reducing the carbon intensity of the
corporate bonds, covered bonds and equities it invests in by 2025,
compared with 2019, Hannover said.
