JAKARTA, Indonesia--Amien Sunaryadi will be named the head of
SKKMigas, Indonesia's upstream oil and gas regulator, Tuesday
afternoon, sources said.
Sources within the energy ministry told The Wall Street Journal
that President Joko Widodo had chosen Mr. Sunaryadi to take over
the beleaguered agency, which saw its most recent leader jailed on
corruption charges earlier this year.
The regulator works with some of Indonesia's largest foreign
investors, including Chevron Corp. (CVX) and ExxonMobil Corp.
(XOM). Mr. Sunaryadi will face several obstacles, including a
dearth of exploration and new projects that has caused oil
production fall to its lowest level in decades. Indonesia's share
of world gas exports has also declined.
Mr. Sunaryadi is a former deputy chairman of the country's
antigraft commission, known as the KPK. He currently works at World
Bank Indonesia.
He did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
