Mary Dillon, a former McDonald's Corp. marketing chief, has joined Starbucks Corp.'s board.

Olden Lee, a former PepsiCo executive who joined the coffee giant's board in 2003, will step down just before its annual meeting in March.

Ms. Dillon has been Chief Executive of Ulta Salon Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc. since 2013. She became CEO of U.S. Cellular Corp. after leaving McDonald's in 2010.

Starbucks said Ms. Dillon has a "proven track record for leveraging consumer insights and customer-focused strategies."

Starbucks has been aiming to attract more customers through its digital initiatives and new menu offerings.

In October, the company said its third-quarter profit jumped 11% driven by growing sales at its U.S. cafes, though it projected fourth-quarter earnings slightly below analysts' expectations.
