Goldman Sachs Group Inc. shook up its vaunted
mergers-and-acquisitions group, naming Michael Carr and Gilberto
Pozzi co-heads of the outfit.
Messrs. Carr and Pozzi will join Gregg Lemkau, an existing
co-head of global M&A at the firm, according to a memo
disseminated internally Thursday.
Gene Sykes, currently co-head of Global M&A, is to be
co-chairman of the group, according to the memo.
Mr. Carr, who joined the firm in 1998 as a partner, has been
head of M&A in the Americas at Goldman. Before that, he was
head of investment banking for Asia ex-Japan and co-head of
Goldman's Industrials and Natural Resources Group.
Mr. Pozzi has recently been head of M&A in the European
region for Goldman. Before that, he was co-head of its Global
Consumer Retail Group. He joined Goldman in 1995 and was named a
partner in 2008.
Goldman was recently No. 1 in the global M&A rankings so far
this year, according to Dealogic, a position it frequently
occupies.
