PARIS—An armed man was detained Thursday afternoon at Disneyland Paris, after trying to enter a hotel at the theme park, French police said.

Police detained the man at around 2 p.m. local time when he tried to pass through a metal detector at the New York Hotel, a few steps from Disney Village. A police spokeswoman said the man was carrying a copy of the Quran.

France has been on high alert ever since gunmen and suicide bombers claiming allegiance to Islamic State killed 130 people and wounded hundreds others in a series of attacks in Paris on Nov. 13.

Disneyland's Paris theme park closed its doors for several days after the attack and has tightened security, along with a host of other sports, cultural and entertainment spots around the city.

Disneyland Paris didn't immediately respond to request for comment.

The theme park, which is located to the east of Paris, is 100% owned by Euro Disney SCA in which the Walt Disney Co. owns a majority stake.
