AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BorgWarner is expanding its engine timing business in Korea, by supplying its advanced cam torque actuated (CTA) variable cam timing (VCT) technology for Hyundai and Kia vehicles powered by 3.0- to 3.8-liter V-6 gasoline engines. BorgWarner's CTA phasers with mid-position lock technology respond faster than traditional VCT systems and enable greater valve timing control over a broad range of engine speeds.

BorgWarner's advanced variable cam timing technology improves engine efficiency, performance and fuel economy for a wide variety of Hyundai and Kia vehicles destined for markets around the world.

"In addition to fast phasing, BorgWarner's CTA technology features our mid-position lock innovation for more refined engine calibration and an integrated center bolt for easier assembly," said Joe Fadool, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Morse Systems. "We are pleased to expand our business with Hyundai and Kia with the improved engine efficiency, performance and fuel economy that our state-of-the-art VCT technology delivers."

BorgWarner's CTA phasers take advantage of the existing torsional energy in the valve train to actuate faster and operate under a wider range of engine speeds and temperatures than conventional VCT systems. Using BorgWarner's variable force solenoid, CTA phasers require less engine oil, which also reduces parasitic losses and enables oil-actuated variable valve lift systems to operate with an expanded duty cycle. BorgWarner's patented mid-position lock technology allows an increased range of camshaft positioning with a default stop at an intermediate position within the expanded range of travel. The unique passive mid-lock technology ensures failsafe return to the mid-park position for reliable engine starts in any operating condition.
