Technology stocks were modestly higher Monday, lifted by shares
of Apple Inc., Netflix Inc. and Yahoo Inc.
Apple (AAPL) shares were up 2.4% to $520.87 ahead of the
company's expected unveiling of new versions of the iPad.
Yahoo (YHOO) also climbed more than 2% on a report that Alibaba
Group has won approval from both the New York Stock Exchange and
the Nasdaq for the way it plans to file for an initial public
offering in which its founders and senior management would be able
to maintain control on its board makeup.
Shares of Netflix Inc. (NFLX) rallied about 4% ahead of the
company's quarterly report.
On the downside, shares of Facebook Inc. (FB) were off a
fraction. The social network was down for some users who could not
log into their accounts Monday morning. Facebook could not
immediately be reached for comment.
Shares of Yelp Inc. (YELP) were off nearly 5%, while Advanced
Micro Devices (AMD) shed 3.5%.
The Nasdaq Composite Index (RIXF) was up 0.3% at 3,930. The
Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) and the Philadelphia
Semiconductor Index (SOX) were each up a fraction.
