Royal Dutch Shell, which has its global headquarters in The
Netherlands, confirmed Friday that some of its employees were on
the Malaysia Airlines plane that crashed in Ukraine.
A spokesman for the company was still working on a definitive
list of employees and wasn't able to provide any additional
information, including how many employees were onboard.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of our colleagues
and friends, and we mourn their loss and the loss of the lives of
everyone on board flight MH17," said Shell spokesman Curtis Smith.
"Shell is providing support to the families of our employees to
help them through this time of grief."
Exxon Mobil Corp., based in Texas, also confirmed that it had
one employee on board Flight MH17. The employee, Karamjit Singh,
had worked at Exxon for 29 years, according to company spokesman
Alan Jeffers.
"We are in close contact with Karamjit's family and are
providing support and assistance," said Mr. Jeffers.
