LONDON--Koninklijke Philips N.V. (PHG) said Thursday that it has appointed International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) executive Sophie Bechu as the company's new chief of operations and executive vice president with immediate effect.

The health technology company said Ms. Bechu will also join its executive committee. She succeeds Pasquale Abruzzese, who left Philips in May for personal reasons.

Most recently, Ms. Bechu was a vice president at IBM, responsible for the information technology services delivery for clients in North America.
