Energy efficiency upgrades at university and
hospital campus to help reduce carbon footprint, enhance employee
and patient comfort
Constellation will implement $10 million in energy efficiency
upgrades throughout the 13-acre Philadelphia campus at Thomas
Jefferson University and Hospitals. Jefferson is expected to see a
complete return on its investment in less than 5 years.
By implementing energy conservation measures, it is projected
that Jefferson will conserve an estimated 14 million kilowatt-hours
of electricity and avoid the creation of 6,000 tons of carbon
dioxide annually.
“For more than a decade, Constellation has worked with Jefferson
to help meet its environmental goals and reduce energy costs though
more efficient systems,” said Larry Godleski, executive director,
distributed energy and efficiency for Constellation. “This project
combined with previous conservation measures is expected to save
the system more than $4 million in energy and operating costs each
year.”
The conservation measures to be installed by Constellation
include: installation of a steam micro-turbine generator, chilled
water plant upgrades, energy-efficient lighting and occupancy
sensors, HVAC occupancy controls, and steam system replacements.
Work is scheduled for completion by the end of 2016.
