Two contracts totalling €170 million
Regulatory News:
Alstom (Paris:ALO) was awarded two Long Term Service Agreements
(LTSA) for three natural gas fired power plants in the US and
Canada. The first is a LTSA contract1 for EquiPower’s, Milford
combined cycle power station in Connecticut, USA. The group was
also chosen to execute a LTSA contract2 with TransAlta in Canada
for their Sarnia Cogeneration Power Plant in Ontario and Poplar
Creek Cogeneration Power Plant in Alberta. Both TransAlta plants
operate Alstom built GT11N2 gas turbines while EquiPower uses
Alstom’s GT24 turbines.
The scope of both contracts includes parts replacement,
reconditioning services, outage management, labour and on-site
support staff, and optional gas turbine upgrades to increase
performance and reduce maintenance costs by extending time between
inspections. Execution of these projects will be managed
collaboratively by Alstom’s teams in Richmond in Virginia; Jupiter
in Florida; Calgary in Canada and Baden in Switzerland.
“Every power plant is different, and these recent contracts
underscore the importance of shaping our services to meet the
individual needs of our customers. That starts with identifying
operating challenges at each facility and determining how best to
prepare them for future power generation market dynamics,” said
Michael Rechsteiner, Senior Vice President of Alstom’s Thermal
Services business. “Abundant, unconventional natural gas is
reshaping the energy landscape. It is evident that LTSA’s are
helping operators maintain competitive advantage in this changing
market.”
In 2013, Alstom achieved a major milestone by securing power
plant service, support and upgrade contracts in North America with
a combined value of approximately $1.2billion USD (€900 million).
These projects signify the push underway in the U.S. and Canadian
markets to boost the reliability, efficiency, sustainability and
overall performance of existing power plants while lowering
components lifecycle costs.
