NORTHBROOK, Ill., July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today,
Allstate Insurance Company announced the recipients of its third
annual Champions for Good award. The national campaign highlights
stories of 'good' in a world where bad news tends to take center
stage. Allstate hopes that sharing stories of these inspiring
individuals will encourage others to give back and become Champions
for Good in their own communities.
"When Allstate launched this program three years ago, our goal
was to shine a spotlight on the random acts of kindness and 'pay it
forward moments' that we see every day in communities across the
country," said Georgina Flores, vice
president of marketing for Allstate. "Since then, we have been
overwhelmed by the positive stories we have uncovered and shared,
and the stories of this year's Champions for Good are no
exception."
To help announce the 2015 Champions for Good, Allstate teamed up
with basketball legend and philanthropist, Dominique Wilkins. Wilkins, a nine-time NBA
All-Star and Basketball Hall of Famer, is active in a variety of
charities on both a local and national level. Currently serving as
the vice president of basketball operations for the Atlanta Hawks,
Wilkins dedicates his free time to making a positive impact in the
Atlanta community and beyond.
"Volunteering my time to make an impact on those around me has
always been a priority, so when Allstate approached me with the
opportunity to help celebrate others for doing the same, I knew I
couldn't pass it up," said Wilkins. "I hope the stories of this
year's Champions for Good and the positive change they have brought
to their communities inspires others to make volunteering part of
their lives as well."
The 2015 Champions for Good award winners will be recognized at
the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion in Orlando over Labor
Day weekend (September 3-7,
2015), where they will encourage others to spread the good
and lead attendees in a special service project benefitting youth
in the Orlando community.
The 2015 Allstate Champions for Good are:
Rhonda Wilson - Gainesville, Fla.
A huge supporter of the arts, Rhonda
Wilson founded the Star Center Theater in Gainesville over fifteen years ago as a way to
provide a safe activity for local youth and exposure to arts
education. Although many of the children who attend the theater are
from underserved areas of the community, Wilson personally provides
scholarships and transportation to ensure that every student is
able to participate. Wilson's ultimate goal is to give youth and
their families the opportunity to learn, grow and enjoy the beauty
of the arts.
Yvette and Kofi Moyo -
Chicago, Ill.
Yvette and Kofi Moyo founded the
Real Men Cook event in 1990 as a way to strengthen the universal
institution of family and encourage dads to put family first. Over
the years, it has become one of the largest family celebrations in
the country, occurring annually on Father's
Day. Each year, men give up Father's
Day pampering and roll up their sleeves to cook for their
communities to raise money and show their commitment to their
families.
Kerri Pruitt - Birmingham, Ala.
Kerri Pruitt and her husband
founded The Dannon Project in 1999 after a family member was killed
by a person that had been recently released from prison on a
non-violent offense. Pruitt believes this young man may have made
better choices if he had a strong support system after his release.
The Dannon Project was established to help ex-offenders with
reentering society.
Allstate urges everyone to make time to volunteer this summer,
and asks individuals to share their personal stories, photos and
videos of good on social media using #GiveItUpForGood. For more
