ATLANTA, May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble
(NASDAQ: TRMB) introduced today a new version of SketchUp Mobile
Viewer, an onsite presentation app initially launched last year
that provides architects, engineers, construction and other
SketchUp users with a convenient way to view, explore and share
models on-the-go. SketchUp Mobile Viewer extends the viewing of 3D
models created using SketchUp—the world's most widely used 3D
modeling software—beyond the desktop to mobile devices, increasing
opportunities for collaboration and communication.
The new app was introduced at the American Institute of
Architects (AIA) Convention.
The app allows users to view their own 3D models as well as
browse, download and orbit their way through the universe of
SketchUp (.skp) files found in Trimble's 3D Warehouse—the world's
largest repository of free, high-quality, 3D content. In addition
to iOS and Android tablets, SketchUp Mobile Viewer now also
supports iOS and Android mobile phones.
"Communication between architects, engineers and other
stakeholders is critical to ensure that original design intent can
effectively complement evolving construction project demands," said
Mike Tadros, SketchUp web &
mobile product manager at Trimble. "Recognizing this need, our goal
is to enable users to access, view and present SketchUp models when
they want, where they want and on their device of choice."
Directly addressing requests from the SketchUp community, the
new version allows for more flexible file management options, along
with added features for navigating and viewing SketchUp models.
Seamless File Transfer with Local and Cloud-Based File
Storage Integrations – The new version of the app features an
improved integration with 3D Warehouse, allowing users to view,
browse, sort and filter search results for both models and
collections. Through integration with Dropbox, a file storage and
sharing service, and Trimble® Connect, Trimble's powerful cloud
collaboration platform, SketchUp Mobile Viewer now offers
additional cloud-based file transfer options, giving users the
ability to download SketchUp files directly into the Mobile Viewer.
SketchUp files can also be transferred locally from the desktop via
iTunes (iOS) or an SD card (Android) and opened directly from other
iOS and Android apps (e.g., if sent as an email attachment).
More Control and Added Views – Adding to SketchUp Mobile
Viewer's multi-touch gestures for orbit, pan and zoom, the app now
provides the option to view models using a new "Look Around"
navigation tool. Users can also toggle back and forth between
perspective and orthographic camera modes and adjust the field of
view. The app also supports SketchUp's Face Style rendering
options, including X-ray mode and a new layer visibility feature
that allows a model's layers to be turned on or off.
The SketchUp Mobile Viewer (version 2) is available now for
$9.99 through both the Apple App
Store and the Google Play Store. In addition to English, SketchUp
Mobile Viewer now supports French, Italian, German, Spanish,
Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese,
Korean, Russian, Dutch and Polish. The app requires iOS version 7.0
and above or Android 4.0 or higher, and is well adapted to the
higher pixel density of iPad versions with Retina Display and
Android devices with MDPI, HDPI, XHDPI
and XXHDPI resolutions. For more information, visit:
