SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Apple and Google lead a
tech sector retreat as the Nasdaq Composite Index slipped back
below 4,000.
Apple (AAPL) shed 1.3%, while Google (GOOG) was down 1.4% and
Facebook (FB) gave up 2.6%. Shares of Yahoo (YHOO) were also in the
red, down a fraction ahead of the Web portal's earnings report due
after the closing bell.
Intel (INTC) was down 0.4%. The chipmaker was also scheduled to
report after the market closes on Tuesday.
Shares of Cisco Systems (CSCO) and IBM (IBM) each gave up about
1%, joining the top decliners on the Dow Jones Industrial Average
(DJI) which was down 26 points.
The Nasdaq Composite Index (RIXF) fell 35 points, or 1%, to
3,989. The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) and the
Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) were each down nearly
1%.
On the upside, shares of Microsoft Corp (MSFT) and Twitter
(TWTR) were each up a fraction.
