UK Prime Minister hails India’s “incredibly impressive” rise
David Cameron has said India’s economic growth will be “one of the great phenomena of this century”. Speaking on a trade visit to the country the UK Prime Minister also argued that “Britain wants to be your partner of choice”.
Calling for “one of the great partnerships of the 21st Century”, the Mr Cameron’s visit is the largest trade delegation to ever to have been led by a Prime Minister.
Joining Mr Cameron are representatives from BP, Rolls-Royce and arms manufacturer BAE system, own a 33% stake in the company that makes the Eurofighter combat aircraft.
The Prime Minister is expected to hold talks with the Indian government about the purchase of Eurofighters after French President, Francois Hollande, did not manage to finalise a deal with the country to sell them they French made Rafale.
Whilst the Indian government has expressed that the Rafale is their preferred option, if successful a Eurofighter deal could be worth over $11bn.
Speaking at Unilever’s Mumbai offices Mr Cameron stated that the two countries had “only just started on the sort of partnership that we could build” and that he believed that in regards’ to trade between the two nation’s “the sky is the limit”.
