Building interest has increased after excited investors and hedge funds are looking at the location maps of the Eirik Raude oil rig departing from Ivory Coast very soon for Falklands drilling Campaign deciding when to position.
All eyes are now on (LSE:RKH) Rockhopper Exploration and (LSE:FOGL) Falkland Oil & Gas drilling the first low risk well called Zebedee extension of Sea Lion with a 52% chance of success. I am informed hedge funds will now start positioning and private traders will do the same building the share price up on both companies.
If we go back to 1998 and 2009 the same situation happened on $10 a barrel oil and $45 a barrel oil. History suggests this is the hedged way to play the oil sector as the focus is now firmly on drilling. On both occasions went up multiples justified or not. Excitment will build with media coverage from internet, TV and newspapers of the Eirik Raude journey.
Add a touch of Argentina fist waving in the cooking pot and the shares are likely to climb based on history of the past two campaigns justified or not.
I for one wish the rig well and campaign well, unlike the past two drill programmes the first well is no wildcast so oil will be discovered, with the nearby calibrated 14/15 reporting limited oil water contact, proving the oil rich sands both for Casper and Sea Lion complex onlaps multi stacked Zebedee well.
