When veterans leave the military, they possess skills that make
them valuable employees such as focus, drive, commitment, and
leadership. Many service members who enlisted right out of high
school are earning degrees before they leave the military, and even
more veterans are using their GI Bill benefits to attain higher
education. Mercer, a global consulting leader in advancing health,
wealth, and careers, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh &
McLennan Companies (NYSE:MMC), recognizes the experience and
expertise of our nation’s service members, and is collaborating
with Student Veterans of America (SVA) to help employers access
this untapped talent pool through its game-based career matching
digital platform -- Mercer Match™.
Using science provided by pymetrics, Mercer Match allows student
veterans to explore new career roles and get matched to open
positions with employers. SVA members will be guided to career
fields that are a good long-term fit based on their cognitive,
emotional, and social profile. Where a typical career-matching tool
may match veterans only on their military specialty and specific
education, Mercer Match connects candidates to a wide variety of
industries and career options by better understanding a veteran’s
likely contributions to the workforce that hiring managers may
overlook when only able to evaluate a resume.
“Mercer Match presents a ‘win-win’ opportunity for both
employers and student veterans,” said Barb Marder, Senior Partner
in Mercer’s Talent business and Team Leader in Mercer’s Innovation
Hub. “Employers will have the opportunity to tap into a large and
fresh talent pool, while student veterans can find career roles in
which they will most likely be successful.”
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Mercer and pymetrics and
utilize their innovative neuroscience-based approach to benefit
student veterans and our Student Veterans of America chapter
members,” said Jared Lyon, President and CEO of Student Veterans of
America. “Mercer Match has the potential to fill a gap and assist
student veterans with their next transition, whether exploring
career roles or in the transition from student life to the next
phase in their professional career.”
“Hiring veterans is a smart business decision for employers, and
veterans with a degree will help business and industry compete on
the world stage,” said James Schmeling, Student Veterans of
America’s Executive Vice President, Strategic Engagement. “Mercer
and pymetrics’ innovative approach leads by example by working to
connect our nation’s well-educated veterans with employers.
Employers may also have the opportunity to engage with enlisted
veterans who have earned their degrees, and widen their recruiting
aperture beyond only junior officers. We hope to see more companies
join this movement and tap into this talent pool.”
Additional details of Mercer, pymetrics and SVA’s efforts to
connect veterans with employers will be announced at TechCrunch’s
Disrupt Luncheon on May 9, 2016. The event will take place at
Skyline Reception Hall, Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, from 12:30 – 2:00
pm.
A newly designed web portal for SVA members will be available
for use immediately. The iOS app will become available on June 1st
and the Android app will be ready by July 1st. To learn more about
