JACKSON, Miss., Nov. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The
Corporation for Global Community Development (CGCD) today received
an $18,000 Partnership Grant Program
(PGP) award from BancorpSouth Bank, Trustmark National Bank, and
the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas). The funds will be used
for operational and administrative expenses. CGCD also dedicated
the Dorothy L. Biard Hearts of Compassion Independent Living for
Seniors Center.
Presented annually, PGP awards provide grants up to $12,000 to community-based organizations (CBOs),
which may be used for research, organizational capacity-building,
grant- and funding-application assistance, or contractual
services.
The nonprofit outreach arm of the Jackson Revival Center Church,
CGCD offers a variety of services, primarily to individuals and
families living below the poverty level in Hinds County, Mississippi. These services
include the Jackson Revival Center Food Outreach, which serves some
850 families per month. Other programs includes annual
school-supply drives, free tax-preparation assistance, housing and
financial-literacy seminars, and college scholarships.
"We give thanks for the generous gift from BancorpSouth Bank,
Trustmark Bank, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas," said Reverend Jennifer Biard, senior pastor of Jackson Revival
Center Church and executive director of CGCD. "With their support,
we will be able to keep reaching those in our community who seek
compassion and support for better lives."
Joseph Moss, mid-Mississippi division president for
BancorpSouth Bank, said his institution is pleased to help
CGCD.
"BancorpSouth Bank is committed to supporting the communities we
serve," he said. "This contribution, so generously enriched by the
match from FHLB Dallas, will help CGCD make a tangible difference
in Hinds County."
U.S. Census figures showed that more than 172,000 people lived
in Jackson in 2013, with 23.5
percent of them living below the poverty level. The 2013 poverty
level in Mississippi was 19.9
percent, according to the latest statewide Census data
available.
"Trustmark takes seriously our commitment to community
investment," said Steffani Jenkins,
first vice president and director of Community Development at
Trustmark National Bank. "We are pleased to see the difference this
contribution will make within Jackson and Hinds
County."
The structure of the PGP allows FHLB Dallas member institutions
to make a contribution to a CBO, which FHLB Dallas will match. The
member's contribution may range from $500 up to $4,000
and is matched at a 3:1 ratio. In 2015, FHLB Dallas awarded
$225,000 in PGP funds to support 25
organizations. For more information, visit

Greg Hettrick, vice president and
director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas, said the PGP
reaches communities large and small to make a difference.
"FHLB Dallas is pleased to match the generous contributions of
BancorpSouth Bank and Trustmark National Bank," Mr. Hettrick said.
"The PGP facilitates community investment at the local level, where
the funding can make a powerful impact on the lives of the
underserved."
