SANTA CLARA, Calif.,
Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/
-- OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OVTI), a leading
developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today announced a
new reference design that uses the ultra-compact and
power-efficient OV788 video compression chip and the OV9750
CameraChip™ for IoT applications in smart homes. The OV788 and
OV9750 reference design offers an entirely wireless,
battery-powered security camera solution with 720p high-definition
(HD) video processing and streaming capabilities.
"Smart appliances connected to the Internet can be capable of
standalone functionality or remote control from a smart device. As
technology advances and prices decrease, such smart-home appliances
are expected to be widely adopted on a global scale," said
David Ho, senior product manager at
OmniVision. "Cameras are a critically important part of smart-home
systems. Through partnerships with low-power Wi-Fi technology and
cloud solution providers, the OV788 and OV9750 reference design
enables a wireless security camera solution that allows
manufacturers to significantly reduce time-to-market, while
maintaining high industry standards."
The OV788 supports video-encoding and decoding up to 720p
(1280x720) high definition (HD) at 30 frames per second (FPS), and
supports output of full-resolution 8-megapixel JPEG images. The
compact OV788 offers ultra-low power consumption and fast boot-up
technology, which are critical features for battery-powered
devices.
Built on a 3.75-micron OmniPixel3-HS™ pixel architecture, the
1/3-inch OV9750 achieves excellent results in both visible and
near-infrared imaging applications, capturing clear images and
video in high-, low- and "no-light" environments. The sensor is
capable of operating in SXGA (1280 x 960) resolution at 60 FPS with
10-bit output, or at 45 FPS with 12-bit output.
The OV788 and OV9750 reference design is currently available for
sampling.
