KEMET Features Latest Innovations in Tantalum Technology at Electronica 2012

GREENVILLE, S.C., Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- KEMET Corporation (NYSE: KEM), a leading manufacturer of tantalum, ceramic, aluminum, film, paper and electrolytic capacitors, today announced it is featuring a variety of its most recent releases of tantalum capacitors this week at Electronica 2012 in Munich, Germany.

"Electronica is the ideal venue in which to showcase KEMET's most recent developments in tantalum technology, which encompass a wide range of capabilities and applications," stated Cristina Mota Caetano, KEMET Technical Product Marketing Director, Tantalum Business Group. "It is especially exciting to have the opportunity to demonstrate one of the key features of the T550 Polymer Hermetic Seal Series. Come by our booth and observe the superior capacitance stability of the polymer hermetic seal versus wet tantalum when temperature is reduced and frequency is increased," continued Ms. Mota Caetano.

KEMET's T550 Polymer Hermetic Seal (PHS) Series is a tantalum capacitor with a Ta anode and Ta2O5 dielectric. A conductive organic polymer replaces the traditionally used MnO2 or wet electrolyte as the cathode plate of the capacitor, which results in very low ESR and improved capacitance retention at high frequency and low temperature.

The Hi-Rel Polymer Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) T540/T541 has been designed, manufactured and tested to insure high reliability and robust performance characteristics. "With ESR as low as 6 milliohms, the T540/T541 results in significantly lower capacitance roll-off at frequency and temperature," stated Mota Caetano. "Along with excellent power dissipating ability, this provides ripple current capability approximately three times higher than the equivalent MnO2 capacitor."

Another featured product in the polymer family is the T543 Polymer COTS Series, which offers over 300 discrete part numbers including options for termination finish, ESR and surge current testing with voltage ranges from 2.5 V to 50 V.

The T545 High Energy Series was developed with deliverable energy in a single discrete device as the major attribute for design activity. KEMET's roadmap for this product reflects deliverable energy versus other characteristics typically associated with capacitors, such as capacitance, DF, ESR, leakage current, and ESL. "Quite simply, the T545 Series can deliver the most energy of any tantalum capacitor offered today," concluded Mota Caetano.

KEMET's T513 Multiple Anode MnO2 Hi-Rel COTS product is designed as a high reliability product suitable for defense and aerospace applications. The T513 Series can be ordered with various options including Weibull Grading, termination options and surge current options.
