American Airlines said Tuesday it hired James Ream, chief
executive of ExpressJet Airlines Inc., to oversee all of its
maintenance operations worldwide.
ExpressJet Airlines, a unit of ExpressJet Holdings Inc. (XJT),
named director T. Patrick Kelly as interim chief executive.
Ream will become American's senior vice president of maintenance
and engineering, effective Jan. 1. He succeeds Carmine Romano, who
is retiring after 41 years with the carrier, owned by AMR Corp.
(AMR).
During the past eight years, Ream has led ExpressJet, which has
244 aircraft flying under the Continental Express brand as well as
corporate and charter flights. Before that, he spent seven years at
Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) and worked at American from 1987 to
