Astronics Corporation’s COREPOWER® Electronic Power Generation and Distribution Solutions and EMPOWER® In-Seat Power Chos...
November 29 2016 - 5:06PM
Astronics Corporation (NASDAQ:ATRO), a leading supplier of advanced
technologies and products to the global aerospace, defense and
semiconductor industries, announced that it will supply Textron
Aviation, a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, with an aircraft power
system that features Astronics’ COREPOWER® Induction Starter
Generator System and COREPOWER® Electronic Circuit Breaker Units,
in addition to the 28 Volt DC EMPOWER® In-Seat Power Supply, for
the new Cessna Denali single engine turboprop.
Astronics designs and manufactures advanced power generation and
distribution systems, which efficiently manage aircraft power.
The brushless starter generation unit, a key part of the
Induction Starter Generator System, eliminates the need for brush
maintenance, which is often one of the highest maintenance items
with the poorest reliability on business aircraft today.
Additionally, Astronics is providing secondary power
distribution via Electronic Circuit Breaker Units, which both
simplify and automate the entire power system. These solid
state units manage power throughout the aircraft and provide fault
detection, circuit protection and programmable load management
through automated power control functions, helping to reduce pilot
workload and improve crew awareness.
“Astronics is proud to be a part of the Cessna Denali program,”
said Kellsey Justus, Vice President of Astronics AES Airborne Power
& Control. “The technology and innovation being applied
to the Cessna Denali program is typically reserved for larger
aircraft, and we believe the addition of these systems will enable
a significant increase in features and performance for smaller
business and general aviation aircraft.”
Widely available on Commercial Air Transport and Business Jet
aircraft, the patented, highly efficient, EMPOWER® in-seat power
systems enable passengers to simultaneously use and charge multiple
personal electronic devices in the air.
The program is targeted to achieve first flight in 2018.
