A former Treasury Department official and a former chief
executive of reinsurer General Re are part of a group that has
started merger talks with reinsurance company Transatlantic
Holdings Inc. (TRH), The New York Times reported Tuesday on its
website, citing unnamed sources.
Dan H. Jester, who spearheaded the bailout of American
International Group Inc. (AIG) under the Bush administration, as
well as Joseph Brandon, the head of General Re until 2008, are part
of the consortium advised by Morgan Stanley (MS), the report
said.
Transatlantic earlier disclosed it has entered into a
confidentiality agreement and discussions with a third party.
Representatives for Transatlantic and Morgan Stanley declined
comment, while Jester and Brandon weren't immediately available for
comment, according to the report.
