Brazil's Petroleo Brasileiro SA, or Petrobras, said it started
up a gasoline-making unit at its refinery in Pasadena, Texas.
"During startup of the FCCU [fluid catalytic cracking unit],
isolated pressure buildup in the fresh catalyst hopper resulted in
fresh catalyst release to the atmosphere," the refinery said in a
statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. It said
the event caused emissions Wednesday.
Petrobras had reported an FCCU shutdown earlier this month. The
110,000-barrel-a-day refinery is located in the Houston area.
