LAS VEGAS, Nov. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of its
one-year anniversary, Sands Education Council, a partnership
comprised of Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS), The Public Education
Foundation, Teach For America – Las Vegas Valley and Nevada
Succeeds, is excited to announce its plan to proactively aid in
providing necessary training to education leaders throughout
Clark County in preparation for
the newly, state-approved reorganization of the Clark County School District (CCSD).
The reorganization will include the implementation of a
site-based leadership school model, the belief that critical
decisions affecting instruction should be made at the school level
by those most closely involved with the students. This model places
more decision making rights in the hands of the school's teachers,
parents, and principals, granting the school community freedom to
make decisions typically determined by CCSD's central office.
Ultimately, the 21st century site-based model is
designed to increase community engagement, efficiencies and most
importantly student achievement.
In the short-term, there is a lack of funding in place to
provide the necessary education leadership training required. Given
the immediate need, Las Vegas Sands will fund the important initial
first phase of this training to The Public Education Foundation to
serve as a catalyst for the Sands Education Council to provide CCSD
with this essential training, avoiding any delays.
"Las Vegas Sands, along with the other members of Sands
Education Council are excited to provide this support, realizing
its effectiveness depends on well trained, 'empowered' principals
and teachers," said Ron Reese,
senior vice president of global communications and community
affairs for Las Vegas Sands. "Therefore, the need to quickly and
properly train these education leaders is crucial for the success
of the program. We are happy to support such an important cause
that will ultimately provide a better learning environment and
education for our local children."
Through careful analysis of the education landscape, Sands
Education Council identified training for the associate
superintendents and principals as a crucial element, subsequently
helping to usher the community into 21st century education delivery
by providing CCSD associate superintendents and principals with
essential site-based leadership training. The objective of this
training is to enable associate superintendents and principals to
better recognize, develop and retain great teachers. As a result,
local schools will be able to meet the needs of the community with
the expectation that students in Clark
County would get the very best education.
The Public Education Foundation, through its Leadership
Institute, holds over a half decade of experience in developing the
best and brightest district, school and community leaders. The
21st century site-based training has been developed to
train the top leaders of CCSD, equipping them with a skill set that
will promote, support and sustain a culture that will best serve
the families and students of CCSD. This opportunity will also
provide CCSD associate superintendents and principals with access
to local top business leaders through an executive partnership
where both public and private sector leaders will engage in ongoing
dialogue by developing and implementing best practices in
leadership.
Currently, there is training in place that deals with the
technical aspects of being an educational leader, as well as
training that develops entrepreneurial leadership in order to allow
for better problem solving. This initiative is designed to provide
customized training in organizational change and the execution of
site-based decision making. Sands Education Council is aiming to
help administrators in CCSD look at shifting the culture to a place
where the leaders of the schools have the support to manage their
own results and to look at supporting their own community in the
way that makes the most sense for a specific school
community.
