Iconic Tiffany & Co.-Crafted Trophy
Delivered to NFL Experience Prior to The Big Game
As players, coaches and fans head to Houston in preparation for
Super Bowl LI, one special piece of hardware has already arrived
via FedEx® delivery services. As the Official Delivery Service
Sponsor of the NFL and the Super Bowl, FedEx provided safe and
on-time delivery of the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the NFL
Experience, marking one milestone in the festivities surrounding
The Big Game.
“FedEx is proud to have delivered the iconic Vince Lombardi
Trophy to the Super Bowl for the last 17 years,” said Patrick
Fitzgerald, senior vice president, Integrated Marketing and
Communications. “There are more than 400,000 FedEx team members
working to connect people and businesses around the world, and
we’re excited to continue this 17-year tradition of delivering the
Lombardi Trophy to football fans before the big game.”
The historic trophy, which was handcrafted by artisans at
Tiffany & Co., is made of sterling silver and depicts a
regulation-size football in kicking position on a pyramid-like base
that features the words ‘Vince Lombardi Trophy’ and ‘Super Bowl LI’
along with the NFL shield.
Clyde Bishop, a Houston-area resident and FedEx Express courier
for 16 years, made the final delivery to the NFL Experience with
the help of two-time Super Bowl winning nose tackle, Vince
Wilfork.
During its journey, the famous trophy was monitored by
SenseAware®, a FedEx innovation. SenseAware tracked its journey
from NFL Headquarters in New York through the FedEx World Hub in
Memphis to the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston where
it is now on display. The device also tracks environmental factors
such as temperature and humidity and monitors light detection,
which would indicate if the package was opened before its arrival
in Houston. Throughout the week, fans visiting the Houston area can
get up-close and personal with the trophy at NFL Experience Driven
by Genesis, pro football’s interactive theme park at the George R.
Brown Convention Center. On Sunday, Feb. 5, it will be awarded to
either the Atlanta Falcons or New England Patriots, commemorating a
Super Bowl champion for the 2016 NFL season.
“Our fans look forward to being able to see the Vince Lombardi
Trophy up-close at NFL experience, each year during Super Bowl,”
said Mary Pat Augenthaler, NFL Vice President of Events. “We are
proud to continue this tradition with FedEx during Super Bowl LI in
Houston before it is awarded to the Super Bowl LI champions.”
