The following table lists planned and unplanned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Phillips 66 (PSX) said June 24 that it was restarting its Arroyo
Grande, Calif. facility after it was temporarily shut down June 23
due to a regional power outage. The restart may take several days,
the company said.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) reported a flaring event at its Joliet,
Ill. refinery June 22 due to an electric failure on two G40
pumps.
Flint Hills Resources reported that its Rosemount, Minn.
refinery lost power during a storm June 21.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) reported that its Martinez, Calif. refinery
experienced a brief power outage June 19. The company said June 21
that operations at the plant were normal.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) shut down the crude-distillation unit at
its refinery in Torrance, Calif., for unplanned maintenance, the
company said June 20. The company didn't say how long maintenance
was expected to last.
Motiva Enterprises LLC shut down a production unit at its
refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, on June 14 after discovering a
possible leak, according to a government filing.
Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. (COS.T) said June 10 that Syncrude
Canada Ltd. advanced 50 days of planned turnaround maintenance on
Coker 8-1 at the northern Alberta oil sands project. The turnaround
was scheduled to occur in the second half of 2013 but was advanced
because of reduced throughput.
Several units at Marathon Petroleum Corp.'s (MPC)
80,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Texas City, Texas, remained off
line June 10 following a leak at the refinery's FCCU, the company
said.
Flint Hills Resources on June 7 said a coker unit wet-gas
compressor at its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery's west plant was
restarted after tripping offline, according to a report to
environmental regulators. Flaring occurred for about 26 minutes,
and the coker unit was brought down "to a safe state." It wasn't
clear whether the coker unit had been returned to normal
operations.
Alon USA Energy, Inc. (ALJ) on June 7 said a reformer unit at
its refinery in Krotz Springs, La., was restarted after shutting
down for unplanned repairs late in April.
Phillips 66 (PSX) on June 6 said planned work is currently under
way at its Wood River Refinery in Roxana, Ill. The company didn't
elaborate on the scope of the maintenance, when it began or how
long it would continue.
Motiva Enterprises LLC on June 6 said planned maintenance on a
delayed coker unit's gas-recovery system at its Port Arthur, Texas,
refinery under way since June 3 resulted in flaring. A filing to
environmental regulators made available on June 5 didn't specify
whether the work was planned or unplanned. It did say operations
were slowed to stabilize the unit and to minimize flaring. The
current status of operations isn't clear.
CVR Refining LP said unplanned sulfur-recovery unit maintenance
on June 5 at its Wynnewood, Okla., refinery resulted in flaring an
emission of hydrogen sulfide, according to a filing to the U.S.
National Response Center. The report didn't specify whether the
work was impacting production at the 70,000-barrels-a-day
refinery.
