UPS Announces New Aurora, CO Facility
October 31 2017 - 9:00AM
- New $90 million operations facility to create more than 700 new
jobs
- Package processing begins this holiday season with employment
opportunities available now
UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced the construction of a new
package distribution facility in Aurora that will create more than
700 new jobs when fully operational. A portion of the almost
360,000 square foot building, located in the 110 acre East Park 70
industrial business park along the Interstate 70 corridor just east
of Denver, is expected to begin operating this year in time for the
busy holiday shipping season.
“The Aurora facility is part of the strategic investments UPS is
making to better service our customers and enhance its efficiency
and processing capability,” said Kenneth Cherry, president of the
UPS Desert Mountain district that includes Arizona, Colorado, New
Mexico and Utah. “We appreciate the community support for UPS and
are excited to offer the area new jobs to meet rapid expansion of
both residential and commercial demand.”
The $90 million project joins a multi-year investment plan to
expand and modernize UPS’s global logistics network. From
early 2016 through September 2017, UPS announced plans to construct
nine new U.S. facilities that will add more than 6.2 million
square feet of facility space for increasing package processing
capacity.
“Aurora is happy to welcome UPS to the city,”
said City of Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan. “I’m proud
of the partnerships that make these projects a reality, create jobs
for our residents, and drive economic vitality in
Aurora.”
The Aurora package operations hub will feature advanced package
scanning and sortation equipment that increases the flexibility to
efficiently route packages through the UPS network. Customers will
benefit from enhanced speed and accuracy as UPS meets daily volume
fluctuations because of seasonal sales and weather events.
The new operations technology also helps power the rollout of
the UPS® Saturday ground delivery and pickup service that
began in late April. The Metro Denver area, including Aurora,
has been an early market for the new service because of increasing
retail fulfillment demands and residential delivery growth.
“We are thrilled to have UPS expand in the city, and to generate
so many new jobs for the community,” said Aurora Economic
Development Council President and CEO, Wendy Mitchell. “Our
continued focus is to drive economic development by attracting
primary employers like UPS with all that Aurora has to offer. We
truly believe that Aurora is the best business address in the
West.”
Today, more than 5,400 UPS employees in Colorado provide package
delivery, ground freight, healthcare logistics, freight forwarding
and contract logistics services. In 2016, the UPS Freight facility
in Denver was expanded to enhance service for customers in the
local market.
UPS is recruiting for a variety of part-time package handler
positions in the Aurora and the Metro Denver region, as well as for
seasonal help during the busy holiday season. Interested
jobseekers can begin the application process at upsjobs.com.
Many opportunities are available with eligibility for benefits,
including tuition assistance.
