OSLO--Norwegian oil and gas producer Statoil ASA (STO) said Friday Bard Glad Pedersen, 38, has been appointed head of its corporate communications unit, following two years as a state secretary in the foreign ministry of the country's right-wing government.

Mr. Pedersen will assume the role of corporate spokesman and head the 67% state-controlled company's press office, taking over from Jannik Lindbæk, Jr. who will take a role in the communication unit of the company's Global Business Service unit. Mr. Lindbæk wasn't immediately available to comment.

Mr. Pedersen was spokesman for Statoil's international operations for four years until he became a state secretary for the Conservative Party in 2013. He may have to serve a quarantine period before returning to Statoil from government, the company said.

Knut Rostad, the company's spokesman for international operations, will be acting head of communications until Mr. Pedersen takes up his position.
