Phoenix Group Mulls Acquisition of Deutsche Bank's Abbey Life Assurance

LONDON--Phoenix Group Holdings (PHNX.LN) Friday confirmed it is
evaluating a potential deal to buy London-based Abbey Life
Assurance Company Ltd., as it responded to recent press
speculation.
The specialist closed life and pension fund consolidator, said
it is in advanced discussions with Deutsche Bank AG (DBK.XE) in
relation to a possible acquisition of Abbey Life, but cautioned
that there can be no certainty that these discussions will lead to
a transaction.
Phoenix Group stated in its interim results last month that it
continues to explore further acquisition opportunities in the U.K.
closed life sector.
