New LED lighting helps Convention Center save
more than 600,000 kWh of energy annually
The Pennsylvania Convention Center is seeing “green” in more
ways than one. With the completion of three LED lighting projects
to boost the facility’s energy efficiency, the Convention Center
has received $60,000 in PECO Smart Ideas rebates.
During the past two years, the Convention Center has replaced
lighting throughout the facility and in the adjacent 12th Street
tunnel with energy-efficient LED lighting. This new lighting will
save the Convention Center about 607,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of
energy savings annually.
“Since opening the Convention Center’s LEED-certified
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) expansion in 2011,
we have continued our commitment to energy-smart ideas,” said
Gregory J. Fox, Esq., chairman of the board of directors,
Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority. “Through the help of PECO
Smart Ideas, our installation of energy-saving LED lighting has
been a key to helping us meet our energy efficiency goals.”
“With PECO Smart Ideas, we are at the forefront of the energy
industry, driving innovative programs to help our customers save
energy and money,” said Liz Murphy, vice president of Governmental
and External Affairs, PECO. “We are proud to partner with the
Pennsylvania Convention Center on their energy efficiency
initiatives, and we congratulate them on this work to help make
Philadelphia a more sustainable city to live in, work and
visit.”
PECO Smart Ideas, the company’s highly successful suite of
energy efficiency programs, is part of PECO’s support of
