Regulatory News:
To meet buoyant market demand for the EB Turbo PureTech
three-cylinder petrol engine that outfits its range-core models,
PSA Peugeot Citroën (Paris:UG) has assigned a new production module
to the Trémery plant in north-eastern France.
The decision was taken by the Executive Committee on 26 March
based on the findings of a quality, cost and investment
competitiveness survey undertaken in 2014 and covering all PSA
Peugeot Citroën's industrial facilities in Europe.
The modular, high-performance, three-cylinder engine which is
fitted on the Peugeot 208, 308, 2008 and 3008, the Citroën C3, C4,
C4 Cactus and C4 Picasso, and also the DS 3 and DS 4, cuts fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions by an average 18% compared with the
naturally aspirated EP Prince engine, already the market’s top
performer.
More generally, PSA Peugeot Citroën leads the European market on
the CO2 front, with average emissions of 110.3 g/km in 2014.
The Group has leveraged its engineering expertise to push fuel
consumption down to as low as 4l/100km (95g CO2/km) for the EB
Turbo PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine and to an even lower
3l/100km for the Blue HDi diesel, thanks to which the Peugeot 208
HDi diesel has clearly emerged as the new benchmark in the market,
with emissions of just 79g CO2/km.
The Trémery plant reached a milestone in January 2015 by
producing its 40 millionth engine and the Trémery-Metz
industrial facility recently became the Group's leading mechanical
components plant by manufacturing 1,577,000 engines and 893,000
gearboxes in 2014. PSA Peugeot Citroën is also the number one
employer in north-eastern France, where it represents 5,300 direct
jobs and around 15,000 indirect jobs.
Commenting on the announcement, Yann Vincent, Executive Vice
President, Director Supply Chain & Manufacturing, said: "This
200,000 unit production module was assigned as a result of our more
flexible manufacturing system and the work done at Trémery to meet
competitiveness targets across the value chain. We are still
actively rolling out our Excellent Plant project, which aims to
bring our industrial facilities into line with the very highest
global standards”.
