MEXICO CITY, Nov. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Three of Mexico City's talented chefs will serve as 'host chefs' in select Houston restaurants next week during a special three night event, "Sabores CDMX." This event is part of the recently announced collaboration between Mexico City Tourism Trust (Fondo Mixto de Promoción Turística del Distrito Federal) and The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau to cross-promote the arts, sports, culinary, medical and life sciences offerings to potential visitors in their respective cities.

Over three days, from Thursday, December 10 through Saturday, December 12, patrons at three popular Houston restaurants will have the opportunity to order special, authentic Mexican menu items from the following Mexico City chefs:

  • Chef Gerardo Vazquez Lugo – executive chef at Nicos, a landmark restaurant serving traditional Mexican-style cuisine for more than 50 years, which was recently named to the prestigious S.Pelligrino and Acqua Panna "50 Best Restaurants" list in Latin America. He also opened a new restaurant, Fonda Mayora in Mexico City last month.
  • Chef Margarita Carrillo Arronte – in addition to serving as chef and restauranteur of Turtux, she is an important global ambassador of Mexican cuisine as well as a TV host and author, publishing multiple cookbooks including "Mexico: The Cookbook."
  • Chef Víctor Cabrera Carrillo – while earning his degree in gastronomy from the Culinary Institute of Mexico, Victor found his true passion for Panamerican and Mexican cuisine. Today, he serves as a restaurant consultant for multiple projects in Puebla, Playa del Carmen and Mexico City as well as a coordinator and academic director at the Culinary Institute of Mexico.

This is the first venture in Mexico City and Houston's partnership, in which they will join efforts to pursue business and promotional opportunities that encourage two-way travel between the destinations. Both cities are experiencing a culinary renaissance, with a variety of creative cuisines and a number of notable chefs attracting visitors. Partnerships such as this in the food and beverage space will help to spread awareness and encourage culinary enthusiasts to explore each destination.
