BUDAPEST--Russian state energy company OAO Gazprom (OGZPY) may
more than double its natural gas storage in Hungary from April,
Hungarian business daily Vilaggazdasag reported on Wednesday.
Gazprom currently stores around 700 million cubic meters of
natural gas in Hungarian facilities. Hungary only pays for the gas
it actually uses.
From April onward, the maximum amount to be stored may rise to
1.5 million cubic meters on Hungary's initiative, Vilaggazdasag
reported.
No one at Gazprom was immediately available for comment.
Hungary gets all of its gas from imports and 80% of that comes
from Russia. The majority of households are heated with gas in this
small European Union country, where supply issues, especially amid
the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, are a concern during winter.
