PARIS--French engineering firm Alstom SA (ALO.FR) Friday said it
signed a contract to supply up to 2 billion euros ($2.26 billion)
worth of trains for the Paris area's network over the coming 15
years.
The contract includes a firm order of 35 trains worth EUR500
million for the fully automated line 14 in Paris, the company
said.
The trains will be supplied to STIF, the government agency that
operates a subway, several tramway lines, buses and suburban trains
in the French capital.
Last year, Alstom agreed to sell most of its power-equipment
assets to rival General Electric (GE) to focus on the manufacturing
of rolling stock.
The French-based company makes all sorts of trains from the
signature TGV bullet-train to urban tramways.
