LONDON--Airbus Group SE Thursday said Hong Kong airlines is
buying nine A330 widebody jets.
The deal has a list price value of $2.3 billion, though airline
customers typically get discounts.
The order comes at a time Airbus and Boeing Co. have been
struggling to secure widebody deals as airlines try to absorb years
of record orders for such types of planes. Airbus had booked only
34 net A330 orders in the first eight months of the year and deals
for 33 of its newer A350 long-range jet.
"Today's announcement underscores our plan to operate an
extensive regional network in Asia," Hong Kong Airlines President
Zhang Ku said, according to a statement from Airbus.
The airline already is an operator of A330 planes and is due to
receive A350 jets.
