DENVER, Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Apartment
Investment and Management Company (Aimco) is continuing its
long-standing support for military families and veterans by
launching a company-wide Veterans Day
volunteer initiative spearheaded by its philanthropic arm, Aimco
Cares. This effort is an extension of Aimco's support for
military causes and its contributions of nearly $1.5 million to help veterans and their
families.
This week Aimco team members are investing their "sweat equity"
in community service projects nationwide in honor of Veterans
Day. Aimco Cares volunteer initiatives include
maintenance of a Vietnam combat
veteran's home in Denver, CO;
serving lunch and distributing gifts at a Veterans Administration
home in West Los Angeles, CA;
repairing a disabled veteran's residence in partnership with
Veterans First in Garden City, CA;
assisting the City of Falls Church,
VA with a ceremony at its Veterans Memorial; cleaning the
grounds and sorting donations at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless
Veterans in Chicago, IL;
beautifying the grounds of the War Memorial in Brooklyn, NY in partnership with The Mission
Continues; and preparing care packages for active duty soldiers
from multiple Aimco locations.
"At Aimco we have been a long-time supporter of patriotic and
veterans causes," said Aimco Chairman and CEO Terry Considine. "This year's Veterans Day gives us an important opportunity to
give back to those who have given so much for this great country.
It is because of the sacrifice, dedication and service of our men
and women in uniform that we can enjoy the freedoms that have
enriched our lives and those of our families."
Through its Aimco Cares program, each Aimco team member is given
ten hours of paid time annually to apply toward a volunteer
activity of their choosing. This year each team member has been
given an additional five hours of paid time to assist veterans.
Aimco teams across the country will devote thousands of service
hours this week in partnership with local veterans
organizations.
Military Families Benefit from the Aimco Cares Golf
Classic
With proceeds from its annual Aimco Cares Golf Classic, Aimco
recently presented a $130,000
donation to each of two national nonprofit military support
organizations - Project Sanctuary and the Tragedy Assistance
Program for Survivors (TAPS). Over the last eight years,
Aimco has contributed $933,000 to
TAPS to support its comprehensive program of peer support and
crisis intervention for military families who are grieving the loss
of a loved one in the line of duty. In the last four years,
Aimco has donated $520,000 to Project
Sanctuary to aid in its mission of helping military personnel
reunite with their families after duty overseas and addressing the
suicide and divorce rates so prevalent among that population.
Since its inception, the annual golf classic has raised well
over $3 million dollars for
charitable causes. More than 125 golfers participated in the 2015
tournament at Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia, Colorado. The Diamond Sponsors,
contributing $30,000 or more, were
NSI Environmental, Affordable Housing Advisors, a division of
Marcus & Millichap, and RentPath. Platinum Sponsors,
