WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Students who
live in affordable, subsidized housing across the country are
pursuing higher education with the help of scholarships funded by
Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco). Aimco's 2016
donation of $110,000, raised in the
company's 13th Annual Aimco Cares Golf Classic, brings
the company's total fund contribution to $935,000 over seven consecutive years.
Aimco Area Vice President Kevin
Mosher and members of Aimco's Washington, D.C. team were joined by golf
tournament sponsors RentPath and Ballard
Spahr to present the contribution to Denise Muha, Executive Director of the National
Leased Housing Association, for the NLHA Education Fund which
administers the Aimco Cares Opportunity Scholarship. The check
presentation took place during the NLHA Fall Seminar at the
Washington, D.C. Marriott.
"We are so pleased to provide opportunities for young men and
women who dream of earning a college degree and building a solid
future for themselves and their families," said Mosher. "In
partnership with NLHA we have had the privilege of helping more
than 200 deserving students through the Aimco Cares Opportunity
Scholarship, many through their entire college careers.
Aimco's corporate citizenship values embrace a commitment to
education and desire to 'give back' to our communities."
The scholarships are awarded based on financial need, scholastic
merit, community leadership and volunteerism.
"Aimco Cares has been an important contributor to the NLHA's
Education Fund which makes a critical difference in whether a
student in affordable housing can go to college," said Muha. "NLHA
is so grateful to Aimco for its generous support of our
organization and our goal of making educational opportunities
accessible to students across the country."
More than 120 golfers participated in the 2016 charity
tournament with more than 60 companies providing sponsorships to
raise funds for the event which was held in July at Sanctuary Golf
Course in Sedalia, Colorado. Diamond sponsors contributing at
least $30,000, were RentPath and
Affordable Housing Advisors/Marcus & Millichap. Platinum
sponsors, contributing at least $20,000 were Apartments.com, ARA Newmark,
Realpage and Harris Winick
Harris.
In addition to the scholarship fund, this year's tournament
co-beneficiaries are the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors,
which provides a network of support services for families who have
lost a loved one in the line of duty, and Project Sanctuary, a
nonprofit that helps military personnel reconnect with their
families when they return from military service.
