EBay Inc. Chief Executive John Donahoe said Thursday he found
"common ground" with activist investor Carl Icahn to settle their
proxy fight over the e-commerce company after holding discussions
with him during the weekend.
We held multiple conversations not focusing on separation or
theatrics, he said on CNBC, but focusing on "understanding PayPal
and EBay and the enormous opportunity we had."
"Once we had those type of conversations about the substance of
the business, we found common ground and we were aligned," he
said.
"By the end of the weekend it was clear, and I believe Carl
believes in the future of our business ... and we found a way to
make this a win/win instead of a zero-sum game," he said.
Mr. Donahoe also said he was "delighted" to have added David
Dorman as an independent director to EBay's board saying he
considered him a world-class business executive.
