Pacnet announced today that it has expanded its network reach in
Europe by connecting to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX),
the largest Internet exchange in the world.
"As the gateway between Asia Pacific and the rest of the world,
we are seeing a growing amount of Europe-Asia traffic traversing
over our networks," said Jim Fagan, President of Managed Services,
Pacnet. "Establishing this peering relationship with AMS-IX enables
us to interconnect directly with more European IP networks and
accelerate the Internet performance between Europe and Asia,
improving the end-user experience in both regions."
The connection to AMS-IX enables Pacnet to peer with over 500
networks in the AMS-IX community, which includes Internet Service
Providers (ISPs), cloud and hosting companies, mobile and content
providers, telecommunications carriers, Voice over IP (VoIP)
providers, gaming and social media networks.
"Pacnet's connection to AMS-IX is a win-win for the digital
communities in both Europe and Asia Pacific," said Job Witteman,
CEO of AMS-IX. "Telecommunications carriers, service providers, as
well as business and consumer customers in both regions will now
benefit from the improved network performance and redundancy."
The connection to AMS-IX is Pacnet's second peering point in
Europe. In 2011, Pacnet established its peering presence at LINX
(London Internet Exchange) in London. Pacnet operates a leading IP
network with a backbone capacity of over 400 Gbps and extensive
peering arrangements with some of the world's largest Internet
Service Providers (ISPs). Its suite of IP solutions include Pacnet
IP Transit, which enables ISPs, Internet Content Providers (ICPs),
Content Delivery Network (CDN) operators and mobile operators with
high-availability and low-latency IP transit services to reach
their target audience.
