TD Green Streets is a component of TD Forests, a North American
initiative that protects critical forest habitats and plants trees
equal to the amount of paper the bank uses each year. As part of
the program, TD has committed to reducing its paper usage by 20
percent by 2015. TD Forests includes urban tree programs such as TD
Green Streets and TD Tree Days – TD's flagship employee volunteer
program.
"TD Green Streets is another example of our environmental
commitment and will be an important component of our TD Forests
program," said Diana Glassman, Head
of Environmental Affairs for TD Bank. "This partnership with
Arbor Day Foundation allows us to
support local urban forest initiatives, and ultimately, contributes
to our goal to be a strong environmental partner in the communities
where our customers live and work."
To be eligible for a TD Green Streets grant, qualified
municipalities must be a current Arbor
Day Foundation Tree City USA-designated community within TD Bank's
United States footprint. Tree City
USA is the nation's premier urban
and community forestry program, providing a foundation for
effective, well-organized community tree care.
"For 36 years, Tree City USA
has provided resources and recognition for communities committed to
the effective management of community trees," said John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the
Arbor Day Foundation. "The Green
Streets program is an exciting opportunity for cities seeking to
remain on the cutting edge of urban forestry."
