The Beck Group Wins 2012 CMAA Project Achievement Award

ATLANTA, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Beck Group, a worldwide, integrated architecture, construction, technology and professional services firm, today announced it has won a 2012 CMAA Project Achievement Award in the category of Buildings Project – New Construction – with a construction value of less than $10 million. The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Project Achievement Awards recognize ways in which professional construction or program management has contributed significantly to the successful completion of a challenging project or program.

CMAA selected Beck based on its under-budget, on-schedule construction of the Cave Spring Rehabilitation Center in Cave Spring, Georgia, a rural comprehensive residential facility run by the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) Vocational Rehabilitation Services Division to provide job and life skills training for people with disabilities, especially those with sight and hearing impairments.

"We're honored to be recognized by CMAA for our role in building this important facility that will positively affect the lives of those who occupy the facility for years to come," said Jared Rice, senior product manager of The Beck Group. "The tight budget and schedule made this a particularly challenging project requiring daily collaboration between all parties, including Beck's project team, the project's architectural firm, HKS, Inc., and GDOL. This tight collaboration, coupled with the use of Building Information Modeling, enabled us to keep the project on schedule with a low instance of change orders, resulting in a high rate of efficiency and owner satisfaction."

Beck served as both construction manager and general contractor for the $8.98 million project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Completed in late 2011, the 13-month project in northwest Georgia included demolishing the existing structures and constructing a state-of-the-art campus with a 17,690-square-foot classroom and administration building, and a 19,690-square-foot, two-story dormitory.

Because the center is both a residential and training facility, the project included a full-service industrial kitchen and laundry room with "hotel-level" equipment to train students in the food service and hotel fields, as well as two greenhouses used for student training and for generating income for residents. The six classrooms feature the latest in smart board technology for enhanced learning, and both buildings are equipped with a message board and visual convenience/emergency notification systems for both the sight and hearing impaired. The project also included an outdoor amphitheater, a basketball court, a dog walk park and nature trails.

Beck also took first place honors in the Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC) 2012 Build Georgia Awards Program for the Cave Spring Rehabilitation Center.
