In support of Engineers Week, Kelly Engineering Resources (KER®), a
specialty service of Kelly Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: KELYA) (NASDAQ:
KELYB), recently awarded its eighth annual Future Engineers
Scholarship to Marie Hopkins of Cleveland, Ohio. She will receive
$5,000 to use toward tuition, fees, and books along with room and
board during the 2012 school year. Ms. Hopkins, currently a
sophomore at the University of Cincinnati in the College of
Engineering, is working towards her Bachelor of Science degree in
biomedical engineering.
Tim McAward, vice president of KER, states, "We are committed to
supporting education and providing opportunities to future
engineers like Marie Hopkins. KER recruits well-trained graduates
who are in high demand." Currently, KER assigns approximately 7,000
engineers a week to businesses across North America. Kelly Services
provides workforce solutions to clients around the globe, including
98 percent of the Fortune 100™ companies.
The KER Future Engineers Scholarship program is open to
sophomore- and junior-level college engineering students who meet
the program criteria, including the submission of a written essay.
Ms. Hopkins' winning essay titled, "The Importance
of Income Raising Technologies in the Developing World"
explained how farmers in developing countries are using technology
to become more productive. A panel of industry judges evaluated
candidates based on their demonstrated potential for, and
commitment to, a career in engineering, their outstanding academic
performance, and knowledge of a specific subject pertaining to
engineering.
About "Engineers Week" In 1951 the
National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) founded
"Engineers Week," one of the nation's oldest professional outreach
efforts. Each year, NSPE grants scholarships to some of the most
promising college engineering students from the United States --
and across the world. The National Engineers Week Foundation and
its partners, a formal coalition of more than 100 professional
societies, major corporations and government agencies, is dedicated
to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering
workforce by increasing the understanding of, and interest in,
engineering and technology careers among young students and by
promoting pre-college literacy in math and science. Visit eweek.org
